I agree with rule #1, and also with #2 and #3 although they do not appear in this comic, but connoisseurs know them :)

In the Wild, a Male Praying Mantis will approach the female cautious and fly away as quickly as possible when the courtship is complete because 30% of the time she’s hungry after and will eat him… Dating a Cannibalistic Female he should have seen that coming, but at least he is assumed to have gotten lucky first… that is, unless he didn’t approach her cautiously and just ticked her off in which case she skipped the foreplay and just ate him.

he still has the flowers in hand, so he probably didn’t get lucky :) it’s a cruel world for a virgin pigeon :D

It could have been the Mantis religiosa, in which it is necessary that the head be removed for the mating to take effect properly.

          nature, you scary!

          • Elliander Eldridge @ April 18, 2011 at 7:10 pm

It gets creepier: A male mantis can continue to mate even with his head bitten off. A male can make its way onto the back of the female and copulate even if the head was bitten off before mating. Often times having his head bitten off makes fertilization more likely.
